Thomas E. and Elsie V. Johnson

Thomas E. Johnson, 74, and Elsie V. Laughery Johnson, 73, of Vienna passed away May 10, 2008, at their residence.

Thomas was born Oct. 11, 1933, in Wood County, a son of the late William E. and Clydia Evans Johnson. He was the youngest of six children that preceded him in death, Jim and Bill Johnson, Dorothy Staats, Irene Miller and Betty Smith.

Elsie was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Wood County, a daughter of the late Raymond and Fonda Beall Laughery. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Springer and Ethel Brookover.

Thomas was retired after 35 years of service with Demuth Glass, Vienna, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing. Elsie was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, crafts, and loved her dogs, Andy and Annie.

Surviving are their four children, Thomas E. Johnson II and wife, Ruth, of Washington, W.Va., Gary W. Johnson and wife, Jill, of Vienna, Michael L. Johnson and wife, Barbara, of Vienna and Sherry L. McDowell and husband, Mac, of Eden, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Elsie is also survived by one sister, Ina Mae Benton and husband, Jack, of Parkersburg; and one brother, John Laughery and wife, Millie, of Parkersburg.

In addition to their parents and siblings, they were preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Johnson Summers.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, with Pastor Randy Dornon officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
