"BoughtAndSold" you never did tell us who bought and sold you. Its been keeping me up at night! I've heard off people being bought and sold, but you're the first person that I've had communications with that was bought and sold. So if you could tell us who bought and sold you I would appreciate it.

Denver: What are you trying to get across? The bakery is a business that opened in 2011, so it doesn't count as one of the 84 referenced. Getting businesses to open is a great accomplishment, keeping them open is a bigger problem. 50% of small businesses fail with in five years of start up. Most of these jobs pay minimum wage at best or less in the case of restaurants. Doctors are closing private practices and either retiring or joining medical associations as contract workers. What happens to these doctors employees when they close? They are either luckily absorbed into the association or thrown back into the job market to fend for themselves. One of my doctors closed and works at Med-express, while another closed in town and moved to Belpre at Marietta Memorial. These were good jobs leaving town to be replaced by more places serving food to the already sated appetites of the city.

Denver, I can't figure out who appointed you Queen of the website, where you think it is your job to question other commentators. Posting at 6:23am on a Saturday on articles two days old tells me you may widh to get a life - or at least some sleep.

Well "RANDOM21" is Downtown Specialty Bakery a name of a business, or not? Talk about not reading what others post on here. And when you wrote or pasted "You people only come here and spread slander" I thought you had somebody in mind, because I did!

Denver: CC13 wrote it or do you even read what others post on here? He even tried to counter but he thinks we hear the words he types. BTW Downtown Specialty Bakery, one of the new businesses you tout, opened in 2011 which excludes it from being one of the 84, now doesn't it?

Id say that somebody doesn't realize Downtown Specialty Bakery is a name of a business! And "RANDOM21" who are you thinking about when you wrote "You people only come here and spread slander" ???

It will take someone further up the political ladder to land a cracker or other big manufacturer. Although the would be little doubt as to the mayor claiming the victory if we were luck enough to get one. The influx of extra workers to build a new plant would help Parkersburg, and all those minimum wage workers would be needed to serve them. UH, you want fries with that?

"You people only come here and spread slander" You should know written lies are libel, spoken words are slander. If you don't know the crime, how can we understand what what you write about?

Is that some sort of admission that all the Mayor is concerned about is bringing in low paying service jobs and as abandoned the hope of landing something like a cracker? I would think someone implying that isn't very smart but that could just be me.

Amazing that somebody would use a source that quotes the Mayor as the person who states "84 businesses". Can we get a count from somebody not connected with the city and balanced against those that packed up and left town? Where will the new operations find people to work? Help wanted signs are in great abundance in this city but the jobs don't pay enough for people to give up their government checks. Doctor leaving donuts coming.

Hm... 84 businesses does sound like a lot for our little community, I'll give you that, AaronS. I'd be curious to know that number of businesses that closed their doors as well. There's a business in the plaza in which I work that opened and closed its doors in the same year, and that's not uncommon at all in our area.

I'm curious Suttle, what does my questioning the jobs number have to do with your inaccurate characterization of beautiful southern WV, an area of our beautiful state you've clearly never been to?

Saarons - It appears that you are against everything that people are trying to do to improve their lives and communities here in West Virginia, except mountain top removal and the coal industry. I believe if you had your way the whole mountain state would be reduced to 24,000 square miles of moon scape covered by coal dust and polluted water.

""AaronS" what would you call, Downtown Specialty Bakery?"

I'm, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say its a business where they bake food, specifically pies, cakes and such.

As I've never been, you'll have to tell me if I'm wrong.

As to my response, you'll have to forgive me as 1) Parkersburg is not a very big town and B) it is not logistically friendly hence my skepticism at the claim of 84 new businesses.

As to young Ms. Brooks and her dramatic demand for facts, about all I can say is b**** please, slow your roll, the adults are talking.

Denver, your young lady friend (I'll refer to her as Ms. Brooks for reasons she understands)will have to provide he list as the Google you referenced didn't list one business by name, which I found interesting.

Curious, I thought this market was to help the local community - give them a place to sell their wares. So . . . why is he dragging Charleston people up here to fill all the spots?
