Well, Couch looks like he's ready for the couch, and Gainer looks like Dunn might have sprouted an extra head.

Was that a fisheye lens on Rhodes, or the mugshot camera?

Pretty sweet deal if you think about it. One bud ducks out early, nominates bud for the job, more buds make the appointment, appointed bud gets re-elected on name recognition as an incumbent.

Like somebody else said, there should be something in place to prevent premature evacuation of elected positions. Excepting emergencies, health problems, etc. A Vice County Clerk to stand in? Then Vice Commissioners, and so on.

Special election? Paid for by the the person vacating the elected position, that oughta do it.

They did the same thing when Conley left the Prosecutor's Office. Hand picked Wharton to take over. Business as usual in Wood Co.

How is 'business as usual?' The guy has worked in the clerk's office of over two decades and was clearly the best choice. If the other guy wants the job he can run for it next year.

They keep saying Miller has the education. Well education isn't everything. I have know a lot of people with the education, but they don't have the common sense to go with it. Mark was the correct choice and hopes he wins when it is election time.

I take no issue with the decision to appoint Mark Rhodes. I do, however take issue with how Mr. Dunn, the “presiding officer”, proposed to proceed – a ballot – an express “no-no” for any public governing body.

It is the responsibility of any elected or appointed official to inform themselves of the laws governing how they conduct the public’s business (and conduct themselves). I am dismayed that Mr. Dunn continues to act in ways that show complete ignorance of the statutory rules that he is subject to – especially as this year’s presiding officer of the Commission. Mr. Dunn, please read the WV Code: Chapter 6, Article 9A; “Open Governmental Proceedings”;

Chapter 6B, “Public Officers and Employees; Ethics; Conflicts of Interest; Financial Disclosure.”

Chapter 7, “County Commissions and Officers”

Congratulations Mark.. you got the job you deserved. For once the commissioners did the right thing. I am sure many think they did something wrong, or they are just taking care of their own. well, you being a county employee know for certain that is not true.. IF only they took care of their own and filled positions from within.. But this time they got it right!!
