Lincoln was right. The Civil War was well underway. Rightly or wrongly, he needed to reclaim what the Confederacy had effectively stolen. Now, a century and a half later, we know it was the right thing to do. If what is now West Virginia had reunited with Virginia, can you imagine what would have NOT transpired. Thankfully, when the occasion presented itself, wiser heads prevailed and Parkersburg was able to shine.
