Once listed among the top ten dirt tracks in the country. I hope the people that wanted a short track are happy, but it ruined WVMS, in my opinion (and many others). There were already plenty of short dirt tracks in this area and only three days in a weekend if you count Friday. Are the seats in front of old turns 3-4 even usable now? Can you see turns 1-2 from the pit bleachers?

$25 a ticket for a track that short?

There's talk around Nascar of needing more short tracks, the original 5/8 mile WVMS would've been a perfect fit.

Can you tell I'm not a fan of the shorter track? I raced the 5/8mi and the size was just right for me. There was always someone, that didn't have the engine for it, or couldn't handle the speed, complaining about the size. But that's racin'.

I live in Mineral Wells and had no idea there was racing yesterday... Where did they advertise this race and is there a schedule of this years events somewhere?? Seem that they would draw a larger crowd if they advertised... In addition, I feel they made a mistake by shorting the track too!

Anyone who lives in Mineralwells knew there was a race last night. Can't they find a way to keep those cars quieter? Some people need to sleep at night because we work for a living.

Wish they would have left the track alone, new shorter track plain stinks. The larger track was the most important thing that my family and friends enjoyed. There are plenty of small tracks around 4 that I can think of that are less than an hour apart. When we seen the new track all we could think of was what a shame

WVMS failed when the deal to pave it for a Nascar Busch Series date fell through in the 90s. This would have happened well before Kentucky Speedway and the other cookie cutter tracks were built and getting a Cup race would have been a cinch.

"We decided to shorten the race track," said promoter Brian Ferrell. "We had drivers saying the track was too big and too fast.

"We have tried to take some steps to slow it down a bit to their liking. We also made it a little smaller so the local guys can come out here and compete with the guys in these traveling series."

I've been attending dirt track races for 43 years, ever since my grandmother used to take me to Pennsboro Speedway when I was 6. I've met and know many local as well as out of the area drivers and have never heard one express displeasure over how fast a track was and wished it were slower. However I do know there were and are some locals that don't have the motor to keep up with the BIG BOYS! My guess is it is the locals that want a shorter tighter track so they don't have to worry about different gears and bigger motors.

I could name names of people that complained about the size, but there's no point. I think some were just too lazy to change the gears, and as said, some didn't have the budget. I remember drivers going out with short track gears and trying to run the 5/8, not very wise.

I would be interesting to know how many of those will actually run WVMS on a regular basis now that it's sized to suit their tastes.
