Sure hope the students in schools needing roof repairs enjoy thinking about the newly repaired stadium as the rain falls on their heads. This board of education(?) needs a thorough housecleaning.

"Fox said if Erickson was closed, he would support funding to get it open again."

So we're to believe Stadium Field is being treated differently because it is closed? It didn't get in that condition overnight.

Erickson was closed when the board denied proper funding the first time around, ...well it certainly wasn't open. The board was very short sighted when they set the precedent of denying funds to build Erickson. Maybe they thought Stadium Field was going to last forever? Or maybe they just didn't care how bad it would look eventually when they so eagerly approved funding for PHS's project.

Why so sue happy? If you do not like the board's decision, then vote them out. That is the correct way to handle this. Suing over every perceived injustice teaches the children the wrong way to grow up.

Spending $1.3 million on a team with only 4 wins last year makes me feel like crying too.

JCB, you are out of line once again. It is easy to see the prejudice this town has with highlighting you as a perfect example. You are missing one huge fact. It was the Wood County Board of Education who approved the funds, not the Parkersburg Board of Education. The Wood County BOE is supposed to support all teams in the county equally and it appears looking at the big picture, bias is certainly an issue.

Whether you like it or not, there are two high schools in Parkersburg and both deserve the same attention and compassion. I firmly believe the board made the right decision in funding the project at PHS but now they should be finding ways in the budget to aid the other schools, PSHS, Williamstown and Catholic.

Parkersburg did not earn the runner up spot as Titletown USA through PHS alone which gained national attention so you must give South it's due diligence.

I remember when the PHS boosters presented Buddy James with a new car. Let them fund the repairs..

I see that intelligent comments are again on the rise. How old are you? The voices in your head are screaming way to loudly. I have never said anything about PHS playing at Erickson, I simply stated that there is more than one school, period. Believe me, I do more than my share for the children of this community, it's just that I don't care what part of town they are from.

Since you undoubtedly hold PHS with such high praise, then you should open your checkbook and add to the funds to fix the stadium. After you write them a check, you should be out raising the additional funds needed. Your arguments are unfounded and unneccesary. Open your eyes and see this is about the communities children and not your ego.

Can we all just shut up and think about the kids???? I think this whole north/south thing wouldn't even be a problem it it weren't for the mouthy parents!!!! The BOE made the decision that is why they are there get over it! It's a done deal! Now start acting like adults and be a role model for your kids! They are who we should be putting first end of story!

Not having gone to school in P-burg, I find the whole north vs south thing quite babyish. Fortunately my kids didn't get the snobbiness down that seems to go with PHS. I think any extra money should fix the roofs. They have been leaking since my kids were little - same thing every year - they are grown now - they are still leaking. But God forbid there wouldn't be any sports! Forget the reading and writing, just wear a poncho to class and go to the game. Pathetic. If they fix PHS they darn well owe south what they need too.

The remaining roof repairs etc had better be done. I have no problem with them helping PHS but there are elementary schools I know are awaiting their new roofs etc. I hope Football doesn't come ahead of that. I don't know that Erickson needed money now, it isn't closed, I get that. But where was this money when they were building?

I am ashamed to say I share a town (regardless of which side of the river) with most of the people who have commented on this. If you had attended the board meeting last night (which, I did) you would know that this was not just about playing football. Do you people with the snide comments have any idea how many other events are housed at stadium field? How much this program effects other programs at PHS and in the community?Do you have any idea the educational impact on this town if there were no sports. Some kids only go to school and fight for that 2.0 to be eligible to play sports. Some kids get scholarships to go to college (that they may not be able to afford otherwise)from the sports they are involved in. Everyone needs to grow up and remember what this decision is about SUPPORTING THE KIDS and quit fighting over who lives on what side of the river. Remember we're supposed to set a POSITIVE example for our children and not this kind of petty, prejudiced, hate filled garbage.

Why would Mr. Hasbargen comment that he was disappointed that the state did not help? Why would the state help? They don't give out money for athletic facilities, only for school buildings. Athletic facilities are the responsibility of the community and are usually paid for by fundraising and private funds. PHS should consider itself very lucky to be handed $700,000. Most schools aren't given that opportunity. I also find it hard to believe that the alumni of PHS (some who are quite wealthy) could not pony up some cash. Shame on you PHS alumni. Let the cost fall on the backs of the taxpayers once again - most of whom don't have kids that go to PHS.

April 19, 2012 - Erickson stadium committee asks for funding

"Officials said currently the school system covers most of the maintenance costs, but said new construction or major improvement projects are funded through booster groups and improvement committees. ...

Superintendent Pat Law said Wednesday a draft budget for the 2012-13 school year does not contain funding for the sod project or the track resurfacing. He also said , officials would need to discuss whether the track would fall under the district's facility projects. ...

"We are working on the budget right now, and we don't have anything in the budget to fund that," Law said. "If we fund that, we cut something else." ...

Law said there were no plans to place stadium funding or the funding request at Erickson on the agenda for the next regular board meeting. ...

"I can anticipate we will talk about this at some point in the future, but I don't see it in the immediate future," he said. .

I find it funny when PHS needs something it is "for the community and kids". BOE needs to cut a check to South and Williamstown.."for the community and kids".

Amazing that the BOE wont pay for replacing the curtains at WHS. I go to my childs concerts and see that they are falling apart and are saftey pinned together. Its a slap in the face to all the fine arts that have to perform there. Equal treatment would be nice.

This is just typical how this country operates and where the priorities are located. If there were a big issue dealing with the education of our children I bet there would be no more than an dozen people show up. But because this is about sports just look at the turnout. Our priorities are way out of whack!!!!
