reality, I don't I consider "Swish" a friend of mine. He didn't or couldn't attend his induction into the Big Reds Football Hall of Fame.

He might donate to the Stadium Committee, but only because Mike Hayden and his family are really good friends.

If I remember correctly he has only been to 1 game, since his brother Mark played in 2001.

He wasn't really sold on who they hired as the last 2 coaches since 2001.

So once again, the concept of the Bank of Parkersburg should rear its beautiful head. This would not be a problem, since a state or locally chartered bank could utilize the power of fractional reserve lending and make a low or 0% interest loan to get it fixed. Then the loan gets repaid to the Bank of Parkersburg.

Unfortunately, this can't be the solution because nobody is brave enough to even try to propose the bill...

I agree tax money shouldn't be used to build or repair any sports complex.

My 2.5 million dollar question is; Where is the money that was suppose to be collected on all tickets sold to be put aside for repairs and building this type of sports complex for all schools in Wood County?

Parkersburg Stadium Field doesn't need another facelift its to be torn down and rebuilt to last another 100 years.

If it means the Parkersburg Stadium Committee taking out a loan so be it, but something needs done quickly cause Big Reds Football starts playing on Aug. 30.

Money should not matter when the subject is restoring a place that has been the pride of Parkersburg for many,many,many years long before the alma mater of my younger siblings was even thought about. That institution was known originally as Franklin Jr. High school.

It does seem that the football stadium at PHS should be a higher priority than a baseball stadium.It would be nice to see the school board,county and city governments and private entities all get together on this one and solve this problem.Anyone want to make a betting line on this happening?

PHS play at South, who would want to play in that joke of a stadium? They wouldnt want to take the chance of having their losing tradition rub off on PHS. PHS would probably rather play their games at Jackson. (I dont really mean that, just making a point that ridicilous comments offer nothing to the conversation, it only hurts people who have nothing to do with the situation, the kids.)

What ever happens, the field needs fixed. I am a south sider and love the rival between the two sides. So if we have to put up money as boosters or bum it from local businesses so be it. We are the best city in the state for high school sports and that is because of the overwhelming support of the community on both sides of the river. Not to mention all the other events that happen on that field. So don't dwell on the past and come together as a community, and a strong one at that, to fix the field. You have know idea how cool it is to those little kids to get a chance to play on a field like that unless you have witnessed it. Just fix it and move on.

The community and private parties need to focus on the benefits for athletics in the community. We have attention split on a new "community" baseball park that would bring in an independent baseball team with college players from around the country with no local ties. And now you have a major problem with a high school facility that is used for all sports for all ages in Wood County and is used for graduation and other "community" events. Clearly, the overall use of the high school facility for the students and community of Wood County outweighs a proposed baseball complex at this time. Focus people, focus.

I agree with the use of private funding to repair the stadium, but my question is this... The more costly bids were revealed, and the article plainly states that they are only short-term fixes. Then below that there's basically just a blurb regarding a third option that they themselves say is a cheaper solution that would last longer. So WHY are the other two options even being considered if that's the case? It's not freaking rocket science.

Private money should be raised to rebuild PHS new stadium, not public funds. The school board should remove the unsafe structure asap for safety reasons. Playing football or any other sport for that matter is not required education subjects, therefore they should be funded by private money, not public funds.

I agree. Not one penny of tax dollars should be spent on Stadium field. The BOE would not even LOAN money to Erickson to make improvements to property that the BOE owns. What a joke! Sorry about their luck. Start fund raising Big Reds!

Karma. Maybe PHS will have to travel across the river to play like South used to have to do. I'm sure the board will find money somewhere and once again leave South to raise their own money for its field improvements.
