boy its hard to even know where to start with this one, well here goes: the mayor said the office is geared toward "retired people" yet he isn't retired he has a position at WVU-P among others, the change involving a "city manager" smacks of procurring Newell's next position since he is term limited like Putin in Russia, i wonder what "puppet" he will pick to occupy the then weakened Mayoral spot? maybe theshield26101 also known as hindsight101 etc. that is if he actually knows the man in reality and not just in his fantasies and alchohol induced stupors. as far as the debate of the waste treatment plant i dont see an easy solution, i do know that no one complaining about its location would like it located next to their house so i propose we build a new one in hindsight101's back yard right next to his still and Mayor Newell shrine

As for Public Debt,I know of no rumors of the closing, just what I have read in this paper.I would point out though that their buildings are leased, albeit long term, but this allows the agency to be "flexible"in its operations.

I keep seeing people saying "public debt will shut down". Is everybody this uninformed? If anything, BPD will be growing. I have even heard a new building is in the works. Do you think they would build a new office if they were planning on leaving? Heck, the Avery St building was built not that long ago. Same thing, they wouldn't have built Avery either!

Correction: Should be 11 years of infliction on the citizens of Parkersburg, instead of 12. Sometimes I can be an idiot.

When more businesses leave Parkersburg and head up to Vienna, the toll bridge will be the only money maker for the city has left. More future city investors use the toll bridge then the other bridge to nowhere. Again, they are headed somewhere else besides Parkersburg. Once Public Debt shuts down, so will downtown Parkersburg. All Parkersburg will have left is the smell of the poop plant!

You know people, we have another bridge, whats wrong with going over it?

GoldNBlue, yes I know the smell is the sewage treatment plant. That means it will be there forever and always welcome people to the state and city of Parkersburg with the smell of poop!! Just a small tatse of what to expect from the rest of the city and people!!

The reason the mayor is pushing this is beacause he is in his last term as mayor...but he could run for the city manager spot and still keep his job...doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that...I think the city should impose a 1 percent sales tax then we can go to ohio and buy all of our goods...not just gas...

This is upsetting. Why did the Mayor not propose this earlier or is he only interested in his on self interests? If he believed this he should have proposed and stepped aside. Under this proposal he would take care of his politcal buddies giving them life time appointments to their jobs. Having new faces and new ideas is often good. Now we will have a bunch of life time bureacrats running city hall with no accountability to the citizens. Maybe he plans to be appointed city manager?

newworld, so you went over the Toll Bridge. You realize the smell was the sewage treatment plant located adjacent to the bridge, right?

If Mayor Newell is "not doing anything right".to reiteratre what a commenter texted, why did the astute voters of Parkersburg re-elect this fine progressive oriented official?

Matt4685,I was taking two business associates to lunch one day. When I rolled down the window to pay the toll, both said they would never open a branch here.

Sounds good lets have an election next year let citizens vote on it. Make it so no one in office now like mayor and city council can not get job let council hire city manager.make city manager pay 60 thousand dollars let council vote on mayor from one of them at 10 thousand dollar a year part time.

The city might do better if they would do something about the poop plant that welcomes you to the city. The welcome mat says," Welcome to Parkersburg, here smell this".

Yeah I agree goldnblue there has to be some motive. I wonder what it could be. The Chicago line was great !

Legendary corruption? I hardly think we are giving Chicago a run for their money...
Some of those ideas seem to be geniune and good for the city in the long run. I can't help but think there is some other motive, maybe Bob wants to be the city manager?

There he goes with his home rule pitch again.Parkersburg's legendary corruption should make us all shudder at the thought there would be no checks and balances from the state. It would be the Good ol' boy's club on steroids! 1% sales tax would just make everyone buy all instead of most of their consumables in Vienna and surrounding cities.
