Jackson County ready for football rivalry
R & R. We normally associate that with rest and relaxation. But, this week, in Jackson County, R & R means excitement and anticipation. That’s because it’s time for Ravenswood and Ripley to play their annual football game against one another. At least it will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. But this isn’t even a typical Ravenswood-Ripley game, not that there is any such animal. This is one of the biggest games in the history of the series. Both teams already have qualified for the state playoffs, but both still are playing for the all-important playoff positioning. Plus, the mere fact that it’s Ripley-Ravenswood has all of Jackson County fired up. This is one of the biggest and longest-running rivalries in the state. It continues even though Ripley is Class AAA and Ravenswood is Class AA. It remains the last game of the regular season. Even in years when both teams are playing out the string, this still is a huge game. After all, it represents bragging rights for a whole year.
