Road to title runs through Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN—For years the road to the Class A state championship game ran through Wheeling Island Stadium and a showdown with the Maroon Knights from Wheeling Central Catholic High School. After last year’s state championship victory over Madonna, however, that road has developed a detour through Yellowjacket Field. “We kind of felt like we’d have to go through Williamstown to get back to the state championship game,” Maroon Knights’ head coach Mike Young explained. “We will have to play at our best if we want to come out with a win. That place is one of the hardest in the state to play in.” Young and his Maroon Knights understand that fact first hand after last year’s one-point, 14-13, setback at the hands of the maroon and gold in Williamstown. “That game is in the past,” Williamstown head coach Terry Smith said. “Those players won’t be out there on Friday night so it will up to these guys to get the job done.” Friday’s 7:30 p.m.
