Shaver starts 25th year racing

VIENNA — While many dirt track Late Model drivers are just starting to think about the upcoming racing season, Vienna native and veteran driver Steve Shaver has already been out testing the waters.
Shaver recently returned from a month-long trip to Georgia and Florida where he participated in the Golden Isles Speedway’s Super Bowl of Racing in Waynesville, Ga., and the 37th annual Florida Dirt Car Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park near Barberville, Fla., among others.
Although Shaver didn’t do as well as he would have liked, he’s very much looking forward to this season and getting back on track. That’s because this is a milestone season for the veteran driver. It will be his 25th year behind the wheel of a Late Model race car.
And, if this year is anything like last season, Shaver will be doing pretty well. Last year, he started out with a win in a Lucas Oil Series-sanctioned race in Florida.
