Camella McCord enjoyed being around children.
As a teacher, mother and community volunteer, McCord tried to improve the lives of children. Now, her legacy of helping children will continue at the Parkersburg Day Nursery. McCord of Vienna died of ovarian cancer March 24. She was 56 years old.
Camella and her husband, Steve, designated memorial contributions to go to the Parkersburg Day Nursery, where Camella was on the board of directors. So far, $10,100 has been contributed by 82 families. Some of the money was used two weeks ago to build an outdoor area at the Market Street center for children 2 years old and younger. It is known as “Camella’s Corner.”
The nonprofit day nursery, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, wants to open a second facility next door to the current one. It would handle preschoolers, children 2 years old and younger, and be known as “Camella McCord Annex.
