The Belpre Womanás Club will kick off the tenth year of Concerts by the River with an old favorite June 3 in the gazebo in Belpre Civitan Park.
Sherry Wilson, who plays country legend Patsy Cline, will begin the Tuesday night tradition at 7:30 p.m., said Joann Holder, concert chair for the Belpre Womanás Club.
The concerts are free to the public every Tuesday June through August at 7:30 p.m.
Holder said the concerts began after the club built the bandstand gazebo and noticed no one was using the facility.
âIt went empty for 10 years and we didnát want to see that anymore, so we started the Concerts by the River,ã Holder said.
The organization did not plan anything special to commemorate the decade of Concerts by the River.
âWe probably should have, though,ã Holder said.
This year will include other favorite acts including Elvis, performed by Steve Sams, and variety group MIXX.
âOne of the things we work at the hardest is to get a big variety of music,ã Holder said. âItás hard to bridge over the music to everyoneás tastes.ã
The new acts this year includes bluegrass and gospel group Blackwater Run, gospel singer Taj Rohr and classic rock band Stone Road Band.
The number of audience members has also risen in the past 10 years, going from about 100 people per show to nearly 1,000 people, she said.
âWe do take a collection a couple of times during the summer to help fund the concerts,ã Holder said.
