Quilt Show
March 30, 2008

The fourth annual Mid-Ohio Valley Heritage Quilt Show, sponsored by the Friends of Blennerhassett, will run from March 15 to 30 at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History.

Area quilters are invited to exhibit their hand-quilted or machine-pieced quilts or wall hangings for an entry fee of $4 per item. Quilt categories for entries include: childrens/baby; applique; applique/pieced; pieced before 1950; pieced before 1950 to present; embroidered; antique/pre-1900; and wall hangings.

Marilyn Horton, the quilt show coordinator, will be accepting quilts and wall hangings for the show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 11 and 12 at the museum, is located at the corner of Second and Juliana streets in downtown Parkersburg.

Awards will be given for "Best of Show" in the hand-quilted and machine quilted categories and for "Peopleás Choice."

The exhibit will kick off with a free open house from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 15 at the museum.

As part of the exhibit, a pair of special events will be held in March relating to quilting and sewing.

On March 22, local textile vendors and skilled needle artists will be at the museum from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to demonstrate needle work and to display various textiles. Area representatives will include Neffás Country Loft, the Parkersburg Sewing Center, Pieces of the Past, Quilters Corner and Virginia Moss.

A special quilterás workshop is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 29 at the museum with textile expert Betty Ann Schilling. She will give a presentation entitled "Afraid to Set Your Quilt on Point? It's as Easy as 1-2-3." The cost of the lecture is $10 a person, which also includes the quilt show exhibit admission fee.

Beginning March 15, the Blennerhassett Museum will be open under its spring schedule from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Daily admission to the museum is $4 for adults and $2 for children age 3 to 12.
