| | Only time will tellNovember 15, 2011 - Jim ButtaMountaineeer fans upset over WVU's loss to Kent State Tuesday morning need to step back, take a very, very deep breath, and relax. It's okay to have high expectations for the old gold and blue, but with this year's men's basketball team, those expectations must be tempered with the realism that WVU's success, or failure, will revolve around the development of seven freshmen. I don't know about you, but there are very few Division One basketball coaches that I would trust to take that many youngsters and turn them into an NCAA tournament team come March. Bobby Huggins is one of those. Patience will be the key. There will be as many ups as there will be downs. Improvement will be from game to game and maybe even quarter to quarter. But, you can bet this team will improve or Huggins will play only those that show steady improvement. Same for Dana Holgorsen and the football team. This team has had its moments. It has also had its meltdowns. Wins over Pittsburgh in the annual "Backyard Brawl" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, and over South Florida on Saturday, Dec. 3, will still send the Mountaineers to a quality bowl. They may still win the Big East should Cincinnati and Louisville each lose one more time. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
