We need 'Hometown Spirit' info

November 3, 2011 - Jim Smith
The News and Sentinel hopes to add a community salute to all those bands, band members and cheerleaders who work hard and sometimes may not get the recognition they deserve.

The newspapers plans to publish a special section called "Hometown Spirit" on Nov. 30 to recognize area school bands and cheerleaders. "Hometown Spirit" will showcase those vital participants who make sporting events the spectacles fans expect them to be.

Band members and cheerleaders are skilled, hard-working members of teams who help bring spirit, enthusiasm and public participation to sporting events, area parades and community events throughout the year, not just on Friday nights at football games.

Parents, school band directors and school cheerleader coaches are encouraged to send photographs of their members and/or teams to Hometown Spirit, Parkersburg News and Sentinel, 519 Juliana St., Parkersburg, WV 26101, use the virtual newsroom at www.newsandsentinel.com to post the images and text in the submit news category or email the information to editorial@newsandsentinel.com with Hometown Spirit in the subject line.

Make sure you identify what schools are being represented and the names of those in the photograph.

The deadline for submitting the jpeg images or photographs and identification of those in the photograph is Nov. 16.
