I'm a grandfather!!!!!!

About 2:30 p.m. Monday I received fantastic news -- my son-in-law called my wife to tell her we were grandparents.

Our daughter Susan gave birth to 4 pound 7 ounce Cole Sebastian and 5 pound 15 ounce Luke Alexander at 12:29 p.m. Monday at a Virginia hospital just across the river from their home in Washington, D.C. Our daughter and her husband Joerg had kept the names secret, even from us, until they were born.

Mother and both boys were doing fine, although the boys will be in a neonatal unit for a couple of weeks and our daughter will be hospitalized for four days recuperating from the C-Section surgery.

The bad part is due to it being flu season, the hospital does not permit anyone except parents to visit babies in the neonatal unit, which means we are going to have to wait to see our first grandchildren until they get home.

The funny part is we were talking with our daughter Sunday afternoon and she said everything was "fine," except she was having trouble breathing when sitting. A few hours later her water broke and she went to the hospital between 9 and 10 p.m.

Needless to say, my wife and I are extremely anxious to see the boys and will be on pins and needles until we can meet our only grandchildren.
