The Stormchasers by Jenna Blum
May 16, 2011 - Amy Phelps
A story of two siblings set against the backdrop of the stormchaser world is told in "The Stormchasers" by New York Times bestselling author Jenna Blum.
Karena always took care of her twin brother, Charles, who suffers from bipolar disorder. Until the day that a terrible accident separated the two of them. Charles fled, and Karena hasn't seen him since, even after the subsequent loss of their mother.
Two decades later, Karena gets a call from a hospital - Charles had been hospitalized. Rushing there, Karena finds him gone, but at least now has a clue as to his whereabouts. Determined to find him, she delves into the world of the stormchasers, where he was last seen, in the hopes of finding someone who knows him. Her journey leads her to Kevin, a friend of Charles and fellow storm chaser. As Kevin attempts to help Karena, the two become closer. But can Karena overcome the past that tore she and Charles apart or ever find her brother again?
This is a love story, not only between a man and a woman, but also celebrates the love between siblings. Its also a stark portrayal of living with someone with bipolar disorder. The background about the people that chase storms is an interesting one too. Its an engrossing read.
"The Stormchasers" is published by Plume. It is $15 and 369 pages long.
