Fast Women by Jennifer Crusie
April 18, 2011 - Amy Phelps
One of New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Crusie's past books is reprinted and repackaged for a new audience in "Fast Women."
Nell Dysart, a recently divorced woman, lost not only 22-year marriage after her husband's affair, but also her career. After spending years as her husband's secretary, Nell's looking for a new job and based on a suggestion by her former in-laws, is sent to a little detective agency in need of a secretary.
Gabe McKenna and his cousin, Riley, have been doing plenty of work for the Dysarts. Gabe's father was best friends with the head of the clan. He hires the jittery Nell, and soon she begins to take over and make over his office. Gabe resists at first, but soon finds he can't resist Nell. There might just be a second chance at love for the both of them.
Meanwhile, Nell's best friend, Suze, is discovering her marriage may be ending just like Nell's. And Nell's other best friend, Margie, husband has been estranged and out of the country after embezzling plenty of money from her family. Margie's new boyfriend is pressuring her to get married, but Margie doesn't really want to. If all of the crazy romances weren't enough there's also several murders coming to light, a blackmail scheme or two, cheating and lying and even a dognapping. Nell's life is never going to be boring again!
This was a fun, madcap story of divorce and cheating, something you wouldn't expect to ever have a funny spin, and of second chances at love. The characters are hilarious and the situations they find themselves in even more so.
Crusie has written several recent books with Bob Mayer, so this is a good time for new fans to go back and see some of her previous work.
"Fast Women" is published by St. Martin's Griffin. It is $14.99 and 451 pages long. It's a long one, but the pages fly by, I promise!
