Salute to Those Who Serve

"A Salute to Those Who Serve" certainly is a fitting theme for this year's Air Expo, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport.

The free event has a wonderful assortment of ground displays, as well as aerial events, including a variety of military airplanes, skydivers and aerobic planes.

Maybe the high point will be to shake hands with Lt. Col. Robert Sweet who will be with the U.S. Air Force A-10 Demonstration team. Sweet was a lieutenant when his A-10 was shot down by Iraqi forces during the Gulf War in 1991, and the Parkersburg South grad was taken prisoner for several weeks.

He retired from the Air Force in 2009 but is part of the U.S. Air Force Reserve at Moody AFB.
