"Pledge" just another "Contract"

September 23, 2010 - Jim Smith

The Republicans on the national level didn't live up to their "Contract with America" during then-House Speaker  Newt Gingrich reign, why should anyone believe their new 21-page "Pledge to America," which would appear to be little more than a campaign tactic to gain tea party supporters back to the GOP.

The "pledge" offers the standard rhetoric, filled with the same old "pledges" to cut taxes and spending, decrease government regulations, end the stimulus program and repeal health care, all of which plays to the masses but is little more than verbiage without substance.

The only encouraging part of the "pledge" is at least it doesn't call for the elimination of Social Security and Medicare, as some of the tea party backers have supported.

Oh yea, the "pledge" always vows to "change" the way Congress works ... haven't we heard that before in the Republican "Contract with America" and then again in Democrat President Obama's campaign? Yep, can't trust the Republicans or the Democrats to do what they say and scared to death the tea partiers might actually try to do what they say.
