| | Pryor needs to go!October 20, 2009 - Jim SmithI readily admit it ... I've been an Ohio State University football fanatic for maybe 50 years, but this season may make me into a coach Jim Tressel hater. I was amazed last year when Tressel, who I previously thought was the next Woody Hayes and could stay at OSU until he died, pulled the starting quarterback who led the team to a national championship game, and put in a know-nothing freshman who preceded repeatedly to make all the rookie mistake freshmen always make. In so doing Tressel turned his back on the seniors who had opted to spend their last year on the OSU team in hopes of gaining another national championship rather than go pro. He also turned his back on a multi-year senior quarterback who had more than paid his dues and was passed over by Tressel in favor of a freshman. Then, this year Tressel again put Terrelle Pryor in the starting quarterback position and proceeded to watch him continue his freshmen antics, having not developed and/or learned anything from last year's disastrous performances. If the OSU defense was not nearly superb, the team would have lost more than the two games it now has in the "L" column. Is all of this Pryor's fault? No, it's Jim Tressel's; he's the head coach; he's the man in control; and he's the man who apparently can't bring himself to admit he made a mistake putting the team's offense on Pryor's very young and ineffective shoulders. Put the second stringer in, which is what Tressel should have done in the Purdue game. Put Pryor in as a wide receiver, which hopefully he has the hands to handle. Find an offense, coach Tressel, or join Rich Rod in Michigan!
