Senior health expo Saturday

August 4, 2009 - Jim Smith
We're all getting older, which means it may be time for a little check under the hood, so to speak.

The News and Sentinel, St. Joseph's Hospital and Power Promotions are sponsoring the first Aging Well, Living Well Senior Health Expo for senior citizens and their families from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, in the event center at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

More than 30 vendors are expected at the free event. Health-related facilities and programs will be on hand to offer their expertise, along with hospital personnel doing free blood screenings. Those wanting a blood screening should fast for 12 hours before the blood draw.

The event will offer free coffee and donuts from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. as well as bingo and a different speaker each hour between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Parsons said the event is a good opportunity for members of the community to learn what is out there as far as organizations and programs for seniors. "I'm looking forward to working with and partnering with other groups in the area to help our senior population," she said.

So, if you want to get a free blood screening or gain valuable information about what's available in the Mid-Ohio Valley for senior citizens, drop by the senior health expo Saturday.
