| | Extra digits a painDecember 31, 2008 - Jim SmithI admit it ... when it comes to some government mandates I'm lazy. Starting in February we all are going to have to dial an area code to make an in-state telephone call in West Virginia. In other states when you're dialing a number in your area code, you don't have to put in the area code, but West Virginia didn't choose to follow that simple plan. Now when you call your neighbor across the street, your police department or fire department, your local church, doctor, school or pharmacy, you're going to have to put in the area code. I admit it, I'm lazy and don't want to have to put in the extra three digits or remember if the code to whom I'm calling is 304 or 681, which is the new area code in the so-called overlay plan for West Virginia. The addition of the area code is a pain!
