| | Let your voice be heardDecember 24, 2008 - Jim SmithFor those who enjoy the natural beauty of the New River Gorge outside Fayetteville, W.Va., now's the time to let your voice be heard. Public comment is being sought on a proposed visitors area that would include an abandoned coal mining community. The National Park Service will have an open house to discuss the project from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center near Fayetteville. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the abandoned community of Nuttalburg will be included in the 90-acre site, which also has a mine tipple, a conveyor system, coke ovens and the foundations of several of the buildings that made up the old town. Written comments on the project will be taken through Jan. 30. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | Blog Links |
