Lions Sight Program continues
August 5, 2013 - Jim Smith
The Lions Club of Parkersburg had a nice crowd at its annual Lions Basket Bingo Saturday night at the First Presbyterian Church on Juliana Street, which is a great place to hold such an event with church officials making it exceedingly easy to use their fellowship hall.
Due to the large crowd and the chances sold on various raffle items, the club will be able to continue its longstanding eyesight program in which needy Parkersburg people can receive free eye examinations and free eyeglasses.
Many of those attending the bingo also brought old eyeglasses with them, which will be sent to a Lions facility, cataloged as to strength of prescription, cleaned, polished and sent to those in other nation in need of eyeglasses with that specific prescription. The club also has mailbox-looking drop-off sites around the city where people can deposit old eyeglasses.
The club annually collects and sends thousands of eyeglasses for use by those in need.
All those who participated in the bingo should give themselves a hand for helping those in need in the community ... the Lions Club could not fulfill its sight-saving mission without your help.
