I hate yard work!
April 9, 2013 - Jim Smith
The warm weather finally arrived ... and I'm already at least one grass mowing behind some of those in my neighborhood.
The sound of lawn mowers filled the air last Saturday and Sunday, with one of my neighbors stopping my wife and me as we took a morning walk so he could jokingly tell us he already was one mowing ahead of me for the season. I responded - was two mowings behind a man on the nearby corner, but I knew he'd catch up with that neighbor since he mows his yard about twice a week.
Mow my grass? Heck, I'd be happy if it started turning green instead of being that disgusting shade of off-yellow that it stays from December until at least May.
The funniest part of the spring spruce up over the weekend was going to the store to get a large bag of flower pot soil for my wife to plant her favorite flowers only to discover she already had two large bags in the garage, which I used to fill the pots and moved the bags of salt to their storage area until next winter.
While I watched the Pirates lose another game, my wife began the task of cleaning out her flower beds in front of the house and reminded me I have to help her clean up the back yard tree line and slope where limbs and brush have accumulated over the winter.
Yuck, I hate yard work, especially when we spend nearly no time in the back yard and don't even sit on the back yard patio because of the abundance of mosquitoes attacking at will.
I see a patio home or a townhouse condo in my future where there's just enough yard for my wife to plant a few flowers and nothing for me to clean up.
